Dr. C. B. Sobhan is Professor in the School of Nano Science and Technology and in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Calicut, India. He has also been a research collaborator and visiting professor at the Two Phase Heat Transfer Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Colorado - Boulder, USA and formerly at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, New York, USA, working in the area of Microscale Heat Transfer. At the School of Nano Science and Technology, NIT Calicut, he coordinates the Master of Technology Program in Nanotechnology and the Nanotechnology Research Laboratory.

Dr. Sobhan was a visiting faculty member at the University of Colorado - Boulder (2008), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, USA (2003-2006) and a Visiting Scholar at the Cooling Technologies Research Consortium, School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA (1999-2000). He has held post-doctoral research positions at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, (1997 to 1999) and the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA (1999). He has also co-investigated a Microgravity Fluid Physics project at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. At present, he continues to perform collaborative research at the international level with Professor G. P. Peterson, President of the Georgia Institute of Technology, USA.

Dr. Sobhan earned his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1990 following his Master of Technology (1986) from the same institute, and Bachelor of Technology from Regional Engineering College Calicut (1984), which is now National Institute of Technology, Calicut. His background is on research topics such as Heat Transfer and Flow Visualization, Heat Pipes, Heat Exchangers, Microchannels and Micro Heat Pipes. His current research interests are in optical measurements at the microscale, molecular dynamics modeling of nanoscale thermal phenomena, thermal management of electronics, and numerical modeling of phase change heat spreaders and heat pipes. He is a reviewer for more than ten international journals including ASME and AIAA Journals, the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, Journal of Microscale Thermophysical Engineering and Elsevier Journal of Aerospace Science and Technology. Dr. Sobhan's co-authored publications include more than fifty articles in peer-reviewed international journals, edited volumes and international conferences, and a text book published by CRC Press/Taylor and Francis, USA.
